We’re pleased to share a supportive letter that Grant Taylor, IOM, MBA, Executive Director of The CE Lab sent to New Mexico’s superintendents. Mr. Taylor is enthusiastic about the physics legislation happening in the state, and encourages educators to support the motion. Thank you, Mr. Taylor, for helping more people know what a game-changer for K-12 students the Physics in a Box program will be!
From Mr. Taylor’s letter:
Greetings, N.M. Superintendents –
The Senate Education Committee, chaired by Sen. William Soules, heard testimony Monday about Senate Bill 155 (Early Physics Education Pilot Project Funding). See the hearing here. Bill sponsor Sen. Mary Kay Papen, early physics thought leader Anatoliy Glushchenko and I presented on the bill, which seeks to fund a five-year pilot project to study (read: confirm) the wide-ranging benefits of teaching physics to students beginning at the middle-school level. The committee gave the bill a unanimous “do pass.” We’re thrilled by the reception and feedback for the bill, including:
“I’m really excited about this program…and it’s really exciting to see the effect this has had in other states. Kids, and all people, learn in multiple ways and the hands-on aspect of this is what really excites me and I think could have a huge impact on our children. We’ve spent the past three years and a lot of money trying to do this STEM initiative without much result, and I think this change of direction with his (Dr. Glushchenko’s) help could really help our state and our nation with math education.”
– Sen. Craig Brandt (R-Sandoval)
“This is a beautiful set of materials (Physics in a Box was demonstrated). I think teachers and students will take this more seriously and learn more with materials like this. We’ve struggled over the years to put enough money into instructional materials. This almost takes the place of a book, although you need a book, too. I’m very grateful that you came down here and I certainly hope that we can get this money in the budget and we’ll ‘STEAM’ ahead.”
– Mimi Stewart (D-Bernalillo)
Thank you again to Mr. Taylor and to all of the educators and legislators in New Mexico and across the United States for helping to spread the important message of how Physics in a Box will improve K-12 education nationwide.
