Physcira is proud to welcome Larry (Hilario) Chavez as a newest member of our team as we continue our mission to revolutionize science education across New Mexico through the Physics in a Box program. With a career spanning multiple leadership roles in K-12 education, Larry brings a deep passion for student success, equity, and academic excellence.
A New Mexico native and proud alumnus of New Mexico Highlands University, Larry has dedicated his career to creating inclusive and effective learning environments. His journey in education began as a Special Education Teacher in Rio Rancho Public Schools, where he worked closely with students needing specialized support. His commitment to special education continued when he became a Special Education Coordinator for the Department of Defense Schools Overseas, ensuring that military-connected students received the resources they needed to thrive.
Larry’s leadership expanded as he took on administrative roles, including Principal & Director of Education at Sequoyah Adolescent Treatment Center (NMDOH), where he helped develop education programs for at-risk youth. He then transitioned into district-wide leadership, serving as Associate Superintendent and later Superintendent of Santa Fe Public Schools, where he spearheaded academic reforms, fostered student engagement, and championed innovative STEM education initiatives.
Beyond his administrative roles, Larry has been a mentor, coach, and advocate for students both in and outside the classroom. His background in coaching Cross Country, Basketball, and Track reflects his commitment to fostering discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in young learners.
At Physcira, Larry’s wealth of experience in special education, curriculum leadership, and student advocacy will help expand access to hands-on, engaging STEM education. His visionary leadership and dedication to student empowerment will further strengthen Physcira’s impact, ensuring that every student—regardless of background—has the opportunity to explore and excel in science.
We are excited to have Larry on board as we continue to support educators and inspire the next generation of scientists, innovators, and problem-solvers across New Mexico!
